PG at West Lake 8-11-15 | Win(5-0)
The Pleasant Grove Lady Vikings defeated the West Lake Thunder 5-0 on August 11th, 2015. Alli Barker (no 1. singles) was victorious with a score of 6-0, 6-0. She played very consistent and was able to see the court very well. She found openings in her opponents game and hit numerous winners. She is a fantastic player who sees the court and breaks down her opponents weaknesses. Baileigh Torgersen (no. 2 singles) was also victorious. She handled the match very well. She came out on top 6-2, 6-3. She kept her cool when there were scoring issues and stood her ground. She attacked the court and figured out her opponent very quickly. It was a fun match to watch. Taylor Edwards (no. 3 singles) won her match 6-1, 6-1. She plays a very quiet game. She comes into the match and her play does the talking. She ran her opponent all over the court. Her opponent's backhand was the clear weakness. Taylor would attack it, open up the forehand side and hit winners. She played a very smart game. Suzette Eddington and Olivia Dodson won 6-2, 6-2 at the no. 1 varsity doubles position. They played with finesse and power. They dominated the net and were very consistent in the back court. We saw them play doubles last year at the St. George tournament. They have both improved considerably in the off season. Shay Greenwood and Marissa Burns won their match 6-0, 6-1. Both these girls have also worked hard in the off season to improve their game. They understand the game very well and they executed with precision today. They communicate very well and keep each other in high spirits. Their match was over too quickly.
Our Junior Varsity team also won 5-0. They showed great sportsmanship. It is a proud moment when a coach hears his players encouraging up and coming players on the opposing team during a match. When it all comes down to it, we are playing a game and we want everyone to do their best. It feels good to win, but it feels right to show dignity and respect while competing. I am proud of the performance of all our players today. There are many things we did well and many things we can improve on.
